One of SPI’s founders, Fr. Carlos Abesamis, SJ passed away from colon cancer on January 31, 2008. He was a much-loved theologian who lived to usher the coming of the Kingdom of God.
His books “Third Look at Jesus” and the trilogy “Backpack of a Jesus Seeker” re-read the scriptures from the perspective of the poor and the marginalized. They are sources of inspiration and guidance to SPI as we continue his work for integral renewal.
We honor his memory by instituting the Fr. Carlos Abesamis, SJ Award which is given to parishes that build and promote stewardship in the Philippines.
